Slashfood Ate (8): Worst foods you can eat

MSN's report on the Worst Foods to Eat got us to thinking about what our list might be. MSN has nothing on us here at Slashfood. While we think that living a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle is a great choice, unlike MSN “health” advisors, we don’t think it’s the only way to live. We put on our Slash Foodie un-scientifical research hats and here are our picks for 8 of the worst foods you can eat:

  • Deep fried Snickers or Mars bars - This "snack" packs over 450 calories and about 30 grams of fat, and a king size will deliver more than 700 calories and 44 grams of fat. What's more disturbing is that some pubs plate them with a side of fries and call them lunch.
  • Shelf stable “creamers” – Water, sugar or corn syrup solids and partially hydrogenated oils make up this shelf-stable faux cream. Need we say more?
  • Pasteurized, processed cheese food - No, we don’t care how well they melt. These melty, spreadable, day-glo orange “cheeses” have to be labeled as “cheese food” because of the addition of preservatives and liquids. Yum.
  • Burger King Chicken Fries – A tiny amount of chicken with four layers of breading, deep-fried in soybean oil 3 ounces of “fries” with dipping sauce, come up to 340 calories and 24 grams of fat, as well as 1020 mg of sodium per serving.
  • Instant ramen noodles – Very high in both sodium and saturated fat  On the plus side, there is little, if any sugar in these, though you’ll be reaching for something sweet to get the salt out of your mouth.
  • Movie theater popcorn – popped in coconut oil and topped with “butter," a large size has about 20 cups of popcorn and almost three days worth of saturated fat.
  • McDonald’s Sausage, Egg and Cheese McGriddle – only if you want to have over 50% of your recommended daily intake of fat, saturated fat and sodium in a 7 oz. (199 gm) sandwich.
  • Super sized soft drinks – Huge drinks, like the 52-ounce X-treme gulp at 7-11, when filled with sugary sodas, can pack away over 600 calories each!

These foods were put here centurys ago and people have abused them to say the least. If the food was not suppose to be eaten it wouldn't be here. Keep your intake of all the foods minimal and there will be no problems with your health or weight.

I agree that everything in moderation is fine, if you exercise, and eat well balanced meals most of the time, then you deserve a deep fried snickers if you want one... although that does sound gross to me and I LOVE SNICKERS!

way, I am a full believer that you can eat what you want as long as
you still burn off more than what you consume. You can say fast food
gives us a choice of new fries or original. both are still deep fried
and have alot of calories. just because they say it's better for you
they still just want your wallet. I suggest the show Super size me.
It is very detailed on what ANYTHING on different fast food menus can do to you.

BUT- if we are going to the rodeo, I treat myself to half of one (I share with my hubby). I'll have to also try the deep-fried Oreos (YUMMY- creamychocolatesugarbutter). I'm not so sure about the Snickers, though.

As for McDonald's- I was working for them when they changed the oil the fries are cooked in. They have never been the same. Without the beef fat, frankly, they suck.

I'm just one not to like food that would make even cardboard turn invisible. Something about getting oil burns from what's dripping off you food doesn't appeal...

I also eat througout the day. I don't mean having a #1 meal from McDonalds, I'll have breakfast at around 5:00AM, then Ill have a hard boiled egg or 2 at around 7, then throughout the day, I munch on things like Lays BAKED chips, fruit, veggies, and when Im being really good, Ill have my Cafe Mocha in the morning on my way to work. I work out about 2 times a week, and at this point I am content with my weight loss and the fact that I have energy again. Lossing that 20 lbs paid off big time. Oh, and my feet don't hurt like the used to. It's amazing what lossing just a few pounds can do for your body. I also eat cheese!. I love cheese, and its great for your body, it gives you Calcium and is packed with protein. On average a brick of cheese has about 90 calories and about 10 -25 of those are from fat. I stay away from yougart because if you look at the lables its loaded with sugar and even the carb smart kinds are still high in sugars or sugar alcholos. The less BAD sugars you put into your body the better. Having that Resses once in awhile is still OK unless your a diabetic. So cut those sugars, and carbs. Walk, walk, walk, walk, and drink water all the time. Instead of having 5 Cokes try cutting down to 2 every day and drink water with those Cokes. Cokes dehydrate and when you dehydrate you put a ton of stress on your body. Drink Diet, CAFFEINE Free Sodas/Pops instead. And yes the Subway diet so work. I have a 6 in Cold Cut on WHEAT almost everday and Im doing fine. Good luck to all of you out there. The battle for the buldge can be WON! It starts with you!

What most people don't realise is that chocolate has lactose in it.HELLO! I have never gained weight from any junk food. America is overweight because of the portions they eat. Go to Europe and try to biggie size it, you won't see it there!

Practice self control and you can enjoy that deep fried snickers once in a while. Excercise regularly to be able to indulge when you want to and quit saying Americans are fat! Be thankful that you have choices and aren't starving like people of other countries.

But when people go out and buy junk food along with the rest of their groceries and keep it in their house- what's to keep them from eating the whole bag when they sit down at the next football game? And fast food, why get it? epesially if you're still near your home. It'd be less expensive and more health to run home and grab a sandwich or left-overs.

I save money from not getting fastfood everytime I'm out around lunch time and I'm healthy because I don't buy chips and soda from the store- it's not even in my house. I'm not a health freak, I'm not a mean mother because I don't buy what the kids want- I just use my head when it comes to food. Just think about it for a second and you'll see how these junkfoods and fastfoods have slowly sneaked their way into your life, and what their negative effect on your health.

That's my rant.

Punisher2k's comment below is spot on. What needs to happen for us humans to evolve out of this is that the people that eat this stuff need to start dieing off in droves or quit having children. This is called "selection". We have to get those fat loving genes out of the population. Evolution got us here, but its gonna take alot of fried Mars bars, funerals and centuries before we see any noticeable impact.

Slashfood may want to investigate Eskimo Joe's cheese fries (Stillwater, OK). They are horrid but Okies love 'em.

A calories/fat increase, so does taste.

It is an evolutionary leftover from our ancestors days where nature encouraged to eat fatty, high cal things because they never knew when the next meal would come. Now that every meal is 5 steps away I wonder if we'll evolve out of it eventually.

If we are around that long that is.

Of COURSE we know that this food would be bad for us, but I would almost be curious to conduct a survey around the country to see if most Americans are familar with it. It seems like Slashfood would want to show us foods that the average American is familar with and not some shocking but rare space filler.
